Head of DICK’S Sporting Goods to Speak at B.U. Forum
The chairman of DICK’s Sporting Goods, which began in the Binghamton area, will be speaking at the Binghamton University Forum luncheon October 22.
Ed Stack has been appearing over the past couple of weeks on network television to promote his book, “It’s How We Play the Game: Build a Business, Take a Stand, Make a Difference” and talk about his controversial decision to stop selling assault firearms at DICK’S stores nationwide following a spate of school shootings.
Stack began working in is father’s store that began as a bait and tackle shop when he was 13 before acquiring the two Binghamton stores in 1984. Since then the company has expanded to over 800 sporting goods stores with over 8-billion dollars in annual sales.
Following the Parkland school shooting in 2018, Stack announced DICK’S would no longer sell assault-style weapons and would not sell any weapon or ammunition to anyone under the age of 21. Even as that move alone sparked wide-spread controversy, Stack then had 5-million dollars-worth of assault rifle inventory destroyed.
The Binghamton University Forum program is open to the public but registration is required. Tickets are $25 for non-forum guests.
The event is being held at the Triple Cities Ballroom Convention Center in the Holiday Inn, Binghamton at 2-8 Hawley Street beginning with a lunch buffet at noon, followed by the formal program at 12:30 p.m.
