A vacant farmhouse on Route 79 across from the school is being torn down with the 6.7-acre parcel to be used to expand the District’s Ag in the Classroom program with an outdoor laboratory for students.

The Windsor School District bought the property to alleviate concerns about the site and asked the Broome County Land Bank Corporation if it could help get the property demolished.

The total cost of the project is put at $54,000.

Once the site is cleared, students will be able to use the Land Lab to get hands-on experience applying the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math or “STEM” curriculum to advance agri-career paths.

The plot is expected to become home to fields for crops and larger animals, expanding on current classroom projects, as well as possible garden sites to benefit the community.
