The first wind farm in the Binghamton area is close to going into commercial operation as the project's link to the grid has been energized.
More than two dozen turbines in the Bluestone Wind Wind Project in eastern Broome County are being commissioned.
Northland Power of Toronto is the owner of the wind farm. Company spokesperson Jessica Kitchen said that the final stage of getting the project ready started last week.
Northland Power expects to add more units each week until the project reaches "full output" by the end of the month.
Nearby residents noticed the blades of four turbines near Route 41 in motion this week.
The 122 megawatt project consists of 26 turbines. Four are located in the town of Windsor with the majority of the units in the town of Sanford.
Commercial operation of the Bluestone Wind Project initially was scheduled to begin by the end of last year. But the timetable was revised due to various issues, including delays in making the connection to NYSEG's network.
