Just when we thought that we'd passed the worst of winter weather, WHAM! It looks like March 2018 will come in much like March of 2017 did- with a big dumping of snow.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Binghamton have issued a Winter Storm Warning for Northern Oneida, Yates, Seneca, Southern Cayuga, Onondaga, Steuben, Schuyler, Chemung, Tompkins, Southern Oneida, Tioga, Broome, Sullivan, Susquehanna and Northern Wayne counties. The Winter Storm Watch is active from late Thursday night to 1am Saturday morning.

According to Weather Works, if you can't remember what a "watch" is and what a "warning" is, here's a simple way to differentiate between the two: "Warning" has more letters in it than "watch," so that helps me remember a warning is worse than a watch. If you want to get technical, a "warning" means that: the weather element (snow, hurricane, flood, tornado etc) is happening right this very second someplace within the radar field. A "watch" means that: if all the weather elements line up the way they're supposed to, there's a good possibility for the weather element to happen.

The National Weather Service is predicting that we could see between 5 and 9 inches of snow by the time that it's all said and done and so this poses the question- will Parade Day still happen?

Yep.

Okay, maybe that was a quick "yep," but here's the reason I think Parade Day will go on short of Court Street caving in. And by caving in, I mean literally caving in, giant sinkhole style. The Binghamton area has a couple of really big events each year that bring in an insane amount of money to our local economy. Parade Day is one of those events and unless the weather is reminiscent of the floods of 2011 (or Court Street caves in), I definitely believe that the parade will go on as scheduled. Oh, and my decision was also made based on the fact that in the last 50 years, Parade Day has never, ever been called off.

In the event that I'm proven completely wrong, we'll let you know by sending out an alert on our radio station app. If you haven't downloaded it yet, you'll find it in your app store by searching for this radio station's name.

I'm curious what you think...even if you don't care about Parade Day.
