The top-seeded Albany Great Danes overpowered the Binghamton Bearcats today in the America East Championship Softball Tournament at the Bearcats Sports Complex.  Albany cruised to a 9-0 victory to advance to Friday's winner's bracket round.

Home run power keyed the Great Danes victory.  Second-baseman Kelly Spear cracked a three-run home run and catcher Chelsea Henige ripped a two-run blast for the Great Danes.  Henige, a graduate of Chenango Valley High School, was Albany's starting catcher and hit in the cleanup position. Her home run iced the win for Albany and pitcher  Celeste Verdolivo.

Albany's six-run second inning put the Bearcats in a deep hole and they never were able to muster enough offense to get going.  Binghamton ended up with four hits in the game.

Yesterday's opening game winner Rayn Gibson took the loss on the mound for the Bearcats.  Celeste Verdolivo started and went the distance for the Great Danes.

Albany advances to Friday's 11:00 A.M. contest and will meet the winner of this afternoon's UMass Lowell vs. Stony Brook game.
