According to a press release from the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County, Tuesday December 1st is globally recognized as “Giving Tuesday” its purpose to help transform, and empower people, and organizations to enhance their communities.

Cornell Cooperative Extension was designated a vital organization throughout the pandemic  by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, because of their services through the Broome County Farmers Market, and the Taste New York Stores.

The CCE team worked with various community farmers, and food producers to maintain safety, and protocol for COVID-19.

They supplied masks and sanitizer to agriculture workers, and along with their team of trained nutritionists, partnered with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, Binghamton Food Rescue, and CHOW, to deliver and service thousands of meals within our community.

In addition, CCE’s Workforce Development team partnered with Broome-Tioga Workforce New York, to assist young people who were out of school due to the pandemic.

Many organizations including CCE have cancelled their fundraisers because of the pandemic, and the lack of funds has created hardships in our community.

#GivingTuesday will help Cornell Cooperative Extension with programs and services to assist our neighbors in need, and support our local farmers and suppliers.
