New York State Senator Fred Akshar, who said he wanted more information before deciding how he felt about a proposal to offer free tuition to New York State Colleges, is stepping up to get that information.

The Republican has released an online survey to get input from constituents on the Governor’s proposal.  The website is Akshar.NYSenate.Gov.

The Governor is calling for free tuition for high school graduates in homes with a family income of less than $125,000 a year by 2019.

Akshar says he is concerned about the burden on taxpayers for the program that would be phased in over three years.

He says New York is currently spending a billion dollars a year on tuition assistance and the new plan would cost $163 million year once fully phased-in.
