Three Miami residents and a Pittsburgh man are being charged in connection with stealing credit and debit card numbers using skimming devices at gas stations across the country, including in Broome County.  Three other Miami residents were charged in the scheme in October.

Officials with the U.S. Attorney’s Northern District Office say 33-year-old Yudiel Ceballos, 34-year-old Arley Gonzalez and 33-year-old Yuny Hurtado Rodriguez, all of Miami, are charged with conspiracy to commit access device fraud while 36-year-old Marlon Palacios of Miami and Pittsburgh is charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering and aggravated identity theft.

According to the indictment, the gang is alleged to have built gas station skimming devices and installed them inside gas pumps so they could steal credit and debit card data from customers paying at the pump between April of 2016 and December of 2018. 

The gang would use the data harvested from the skimming devices to obtain money orders, gift cards, cash and merchandise.
