Forks and SV Dominate in High School Football Openers
The Chenango Forks Blue Devils and Susquehanna Valley Sabers both rolled to impressive opening night victories on the first weekend of high school football. Fans had plenty of action to follow this weekend as teams opened their 2019 seasons.
At Chenango Forks, the Blue Devils toppled Owego 42-7. In Conklin, the reigning Class C Champion Sabers had no problem picking up where they left off last season, throttlling Watkins Glen-Odessa Montour 40-0.
Several teams took part in the Kickoff Classic at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. One of those was Maine-Endwell. The Spartans rain into a powerful attack from Carthage, a Section Three Class A program. Carthage put up 58 points to run away with a 52-28 victory. Ryan Brozovic ran for 169 yards and Michael Mancini tacked on 105 more rushing yards, but it was not enough for the Spartans.
Other Section Four action over the weekend included:
- Waverly 23, Union-Endicott 22
- Corcoran 20, Binghamton 19
- Tioga 23, Walton 20
- Ithaca 32, Johnson City 22
- Corning 41, Vestal 0
- Greene 35, Deposit-Hancock 20
