Foodie Friday [Photo Gallery] Turkey-Shaped Pizza & Homemade Red Sauce
Remember sitting at the kids' table for the holidays? It wasn't all that bad but it could've been so much better if the featured turkey on the table was a Pizza-Gobbler!

Foodie Friday [Photo Gallery] Turkey-Shaped Pizza & Homemade Red Sauce (prep time: about 40 minutes for the sauce, 15 minutes to prepare the pizza and 15 minutes baking time. Makes 6 slices plus 1 garlic knot.)
1/4 yellow onion, finely diced
5 cloves garlic, finely diced, grated or pressed
2 Tb. dried basil
1Tb. dried oregano
3 Tb. extra virgin olive oil (2 Tb. for sauce, 1 Tb. for brushing on the "head")
1 can crushed tomato
1-2 Tb. granulated sugar
pinch salt
2 links turkey sausage or sweet Italian sausage
yellow bell pepper
canned roasted red pepper (pimento)
black olive
sliced pepperoni
sliced mozzarella cheese (4-6 slices)
1 tsp. garlic powder
This combination of cooking an crafts is fun to make and eat but don't be tied to the "Turkey-theme." I'm thinking a sausage pizza shaped like a reindeer head and use chunks of dough for garlic-knot antlers, a pepperoni slice for the red nose and details for the eyes, mouth, etc. using things like pepper slices, black olives, taking into consideration what you need for color to delineate features. Have fun!
