A skating rink planned for a town of Union park won't be opening this winter as previously announced.

Town officials had indicated the facility at Highland Park in Endwell might be ready for skaters by Christmas. But the project now is on hold as plans are reassessed.

A community organization has been pushing for a rink in the town for the past five years.

The group, known as The Score, has been working with local elected officials to make the rink a reality.

President James Tofte says efforts will continue to develop a multiple phase project that will benefit area skaters and help to boost the local economy.

Tofte says he hopes plans will include providing a hardened surface with piping that could be used for refrigeration. He also envisions construction of some sort of structure for the rink.

Tofte says project organizers have received support from town, county and state officials.
