A Broome County town court is about to return to the place it vacated over a decade ago.

Town of Union court operations will soon be relocated from the village of Johnson City Justice Building. The court will be moving back to East Main Street in Endwell, next door to the town office building.

Town supervisor Robert Mack said renovation work on the space that had been occupied by the New York State Police is nearing completion.

Mack said he expects the process of relocating the court offices from Johnson City will get underway Wednesday.

The Endwell state police station moved from the first floor of the building to the basement of the structure in February.

The building was constructed for the Union town court in 1996. After the structure's basement was damaged by flooding in September 2011, the state police were moved to the first floor and the court operations were shifted to Johnson City.

The town board decided to move the court back to Endwell to save about $50,000 a year in rent payments that were being made to the village of Johnson City for the use of its justice building.

Mack said he expects the town court will be able to start operating at the Endwell site around June 3.
