Authorities say a crash on Hooper Road in Endwell December 4 could have been much worse had the motorist not hit a fire hydrant as her car rolled down the road from Taft Avenue.

The driver in the 5 p.m. incident apparently suffered a medical problem, hit another vehicle and her vehicle rolled down Hooper Road, crashing into the hydrant at the top of a high embankment over the Weis Supermarket/CVS plaza across from Highland Park.

Officials say had the hydrant not stopped the car, it could have careened around 15 feet down to the parking lot below.

As it was, the woman had to be cut out of her vehicle by responding fire and medic crews.  She was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Her condition was not known.
