Challenges posed by Covid-19 are being cited as a key reason for the closure of GasLamp Gym in Binghamton.

The business, which had operated at 33 Court Street since June 2008, has announced it has shut down permanently.

The facility originally had been available to members 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Operations were disrupted last March when most businesses were ordered closed because of the pandemic.

The layout of GasLamp Gym made it difficult to open the facility in compliance with the health requirements mandated by the state.

Co-owner Brian Nayor said it was "not fair to our hundreds of members" to keep them waiting for a time when Covid-19 guidelines would be relaxed.
