A driver sustained severe head injuries after he was partially ejected from a pickup truck that crashed into a pole near his town of Dickinson home.

Authorities say 40-year-old Christopher Lemmon of Sunset Drive was hurt when the vehicle went off Glenwood Road at a high rate of speed.

The crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday about 50 feet south of Sunset Drive.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the restored 1940 Ford pickup truck apparently was traveling north when it crossed into the oncoming lane. The vehicle hit a curb and a street sign before slamming into the utility pole. The pole was sheered in half and the truck wound up on its side.

Sheriff's deputies and Prospect Terrace firefighters pulled Lemmon from the wrecked truck through a broken side window. He was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City where he was reported to be in critical but stable condition.
