Delaware County Man Faces Charges After Standoff with Police
Authorities say a man allegedly choked someone and then threatened the person with a gun in a dispute that resulted in a standoff with state troopers that lasted several hours.
According to New York State Police, 42-year-old Christopher Yeary of Hamden has been charged with felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful imprisonment. He also faces counts of criminal obstruction of breathing, menacing and criminal mischief.
Walton police officers and state troopers were sent to investigate a reported domestic incident on Chambers Hollow Road around 12:40 p.m. Saturday.
The Walton officers helped to remove someone from the scene. That person was evaluated by Delhi emergency medical services personnel but was not taken to a hospital.
Investigators said Yeary would not leave the home to speak with police. He was taken into custody after about eight hours. He was arraigned and ordered held in Delaware County Jail on $25,000 bail.
State police said Yeary was accused of choking and menacing a person. He allegedly prevented the person from leaving the residence and then smashed the person's cell phone.
Delaware County sheriff's deputies and police officers from Delhi and Colchester assisted state troopers.
