Cortland County Sheriff’s officials say they have now learned a man being treated for knife wounds after reporting he had been stabbed by an unknown assailant at his home in McGraw February 19 actually accidentally fell on the knife.  Investigators say the man admitted he fell on the knife while he was intoxicated.

Deputies responded to a home on West Academy Street shortly after 1:30 Wednesday afternoon.  A man with stab wounds was taken to a local medical center then transferred to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for additional treatment.  It’s there during an interview the victim told investigators there was no assailant.

Sheriff’s officials say the investigation is continuing and an arrest is pending.
