A South Carolina man is to serve ten years in New York State Prison and five years probation for shooting a Johnson City man in front of a Corliss Avenue apartment house March 24 during a confrontation involving the victim, the shooter and the shooter’s sister.

27 year old Larry Patterson pleaded guilty to felony criminal possession of a weapon but had originally been also charged with attempted murder.

The victim was treated for a gunshot wound to the back.

Patterson asked for leniency and the minimum of three and a half years in prison but Broome County Court Judge Kevin Dooley said Patterson should have thought about the consequences before he opened fire in the middle of the day in the residential neighborhood.

18 year old Norma Hayes of Johnson City was also indicted on attempted murder and attempted assault charges.

Police say prior to the shooting, Hayes is accused of threatening the victim with a knife.
