Big changes are coming to the Endicott restaurant scene with the announcement of the sale of a popular place for "hot pies" and other Italian cuisine.

Consol's Family Kitchen on Oak Hill Avenue has been acquired by the nearby Concordia Restaurant, which opened less than two years ago. The announcement was made in an online post late Monday.

According to the brief statement, the Concordia has outgrown its current location on Odell Avenue on Endicott's North Side.

Plans call for the Concordia to relocate to the Consol's site at the corner of Oak Hill Avenue and Watson Boulevard.

The Concordia is to remain open at its current location during the transition, which is expected to take several months to complete.

Consol's Family Kitchen will be open only for takeout service while the space is being transformed for the Concordia.

According to the announcement, "Consol's legacy will live on" as the Concordia adds "Consol's most popular offerings to their menu."

Concordia owner and chef Michael Romeo thanked Franklin and Michelle Sager "for entrusting him with the Consol's Family Kitchen legacy." He said "he can't wait to welcome diners into the new space" as he blends the "two popular dining destinations together."

Consol's Family Kitchen has been a fixture in the Little Italy section of Endicott for more than three decades. The restaurant continued the tradition of Duff's Tavern, which opened on Odell Avenue in 1946.

IBM purchased the former Duff's building in 1986 and demolished it - for a planned company expansion that never came.
