A 21-year-old Broome County man has admitted to killing his uncle during an argument at a Conklin residence.

Prosecutors on Thursday announced Matthew Bartosik of Conklin pleaded guilty to murder in connection with the shooting death of 61-year-old Michael Lewis.

Investigators said Bartosik became enraged after family members took away a TV and a video game console.

Police were called to the home at 58 Leslie Avenue on the morning of January 3.

Bartosik repeatedly shot Lewis during the violent dispute, causing his uncle's death. He also shot Jessica Lewis - a cousin - several times in the head and back. She survived her injuries.

Bartosik then fired at a Broome County sheriff's deputy and a state trooper as they approached the home to try to rescue residents who had barricaded themselves inside. Bartosiki's shot narrowly missed striking the deputy.

Bartosik eventually left the home, holding his hands in the air. He appeared to be holding a small pistol, which he tossed to the ground.

After he was taken into custody, Bartosik told police: "Took long enough!"

In addition to the murder count, Bartoski also pleaded guilty to counts of attempted murder and assault, as well as weapon-related charges.

Bartosik is scheduled to be sentenced on November 14 in Broome County Court. He faces up to 50 years to life in prison.
