Chicken Giant Sues Maines Paper and Food for Alleged Contract Breach
Maines Paper and Food Service in Conklin, which just announced the layoff of hundreds of workers as it closed down its Broadline operations, is being sued for millions of dollars.
Purdue Farms of Maryland has filed suit in federal court alleging breach of contract for outstanding deliveries of chicken in February.
The papers filed earlier this month in United States District Court for the Northern District of New York claim Maines had outstanding payments of over $1.4 million to Purdue for delivery of chicken for distribution to Wendy’s and Burger King fast food chains. There were other outstanding payments and invoices cited, totaling over $4 million under court filings.
Fox-40 reports six similar complaints have been filed by other companies.
