Combine a classic fruit crisp with pie makes a simple dessert with an extra boost of the benefits of oatmeal.

Cherry Crisp Pie (Prep. time 30 minutes.  Yield: 6 to 8 slices)

1 frozen pie shell, thawed (or fresh pie dough)

1 can cherry pie filling

1 c. rolled oats

1/2 stick cold butter cut into cubes

1/3 c. packed brown sugar

1 Tb. ground cinnamon

1 tsp. grated nutmeg

Pinch of salt.

The zest if ½ lemon

Preheat oven to 350. Combine the oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Rub the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles the texture of small peas.  Pour the pie filling into the crust. Top with the crumble mixture and sprinkle the lemon zest over the crumble.  Bake 20 to 30 minutes until the crust is brown, the filling is bubbling and the topping is crisp and brown.  Serve with ice cream.
