Chemung County Man Charged in Crash that Sends Three to Hospital
A Horseheads man is being charged with drunk driving following a head-on crash in Tompkins County that sent three people to the hospital.
New York State Police say at 7:06 p.m. November 25 they were called to a crash on Shaffer Road in the Town of Newfield.
Troopers say they found 27-year-old Andrew Sampson was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck that crossed a double yellow line and hit a Ford Fusion head-on and came to rest on its side.
Three people in the Ford: a 31-year-old Newfield man, a 24-year-old Enfield woman and a 62-year-old Newfield woman were all flown to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse with serious injuries.
Sampson was arrested at 8:21 p.m. and charged with felony vehicular assault, misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, violation of unlawful possession of marijuana and issued several traffic tickets.
He was sent to the Tompkins County Jail on $3,000 bail.
