Several properties are under contract for a potential new Byrne Dairy convenience store in the Nimmonsburg section of the town of Chenango.

The Syracuse-based company has been expanding rapidly in recent years. It opened its first Broome County shop in Endicott less than four months ago. New stores also are planned in Endwell and Whitney Point.

Byrne Dairy vice president Christian Brunelle said the company now has chosen a 2.7-acre site at 1115 Front Street in the town of Chenango for a fourth Binghamton-area store.

The prospective store would be built just north of the Sonic Drive-In restaurant. The store would be located at the corner of Front Street and Hillside Drive.

A two-story office building now is at the site. A State Farm insurance agent's office and Hillside Flower Girls operate at the location.

Brunelle said Byrne Dairy will outline its plans for the project to town of Chenango officials soon, most likely in October.

If the project receives necessary approvals, Brunelle said work at the site could begin next spring.

Meanwhile, the finishing touches are being applied to the next Broome County Byrne Dairy & Deli store. The shop at 3100 Watson Boulevard in Endwell is scheduled to open October 12.

Byrne Dairy also plans to open a store on Route 11 at River Road in Whitney Point. The timetable for that project hasn't been finalized.
