A long-empty commercial property on Hooper Road in Endwell will soon be back in use.

The Rescue Mission plans to open a Thrifty Shopper store at the shopping plaza which in the past had been occupied by department stores. The site is located east of the town of Union's Highland Park.

Renovation work is continuing inside the building, which has been empty for years.

Michael Ross, a Rescue Mission program manager, said the 17,000 square foot store is to open next month. A grand opening has been scheduled for August 22.

Ross said the store is expected to employ eight to ten people. They'll be assisted by volunteers. This will be the second Thrifty Shopper store in Broome County.

Bins will be set up outside the new store for donations of clothing, furniture and household goods.

Revenue from Thrifty Shopper stores helps to fund Rescue Mission programs and services in upstate New York.
