Broome United Way Providing Grants to 32 Organizations

Dozens of community groups will be receiving funding through United Way of Broome County.

The agency has announced $1.5 million in grants using money raised through a community campaign. The funds are being allocated to 32 local non-profit organizations. According to United Way, the grants were approved by community volunteers.

The largest grant - $253,000 - will go to the YMCA of Broome County. Other large grants include $152,000 to Catholic Charities of Broome County and $115,000 to the Crime Victims Assistance Center.

According to a United Way news release, the Strategic Priorities Grant Program aims to bring together organizations, people and resources to focus on critical community issues.

United Way focuses its funding cycles on three priorities: 1. Families are empowered and economically stable. 2. Youth are prepared to live, learn, work and contribute. 3. Seniors are healthy and safe.
