Community organizations are providing the opportunities for residents of the city's North Side.

The first scheduled event will be a block party hosted by the United Way of Broome County. It will be held at the Lee Barta Community Center at 108 Liberty Street.

Organizers say the party will help connect neighbors with the community center and the Roosevelt Elementary School.

Free food will be served and there will be carnival-style games along with other entertainment. Each child attending will receive free school supplies.

The party will be held Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the community center at Liberty and Pearne streets.

The second event will be an ice cream social hosted by Community Advocates Restoring Educational Standards. It will be held at Cheri Lindsey Park on Pleasant Street.

Organizers say people will be able to "chill out with friends and neighbors" and enjoy free ice cream, in addition to obtaining school supplies.
