Broome County Sheriff’s Officials say they recovered a number of items when they responded to a burglar alarm at a home on Johnson Road in Kirkwood at 8:35 a.m. and found a man with a pry bar and a hammer in the back of the house trying to get in.

Authorities say they found 24 year old John Barrett-Mudge of Windsor in possession of keys to an all terrain vehicle parked behind the home that belonged to a friend of the home-owner, silver cutlery, a gold egg thimble, Chinese paper bank notes and three hypodermic needles.

There was no one in the house at the time.

Barrett-Mudge is charged with attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools, petit larceny and criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.

Investigators say they also found Barrett-Mudge had an active warrant for his arrest in the City of Binghamton for criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.

Authorities say while they were on the scene, they were approached by several people who told them they had seen a suspicious person in the area matching the Windsor man’s description.

Deputies say if any of the items they said they recovered sound familiar, the potential owner should contact the Sheriff’s office at 607-778-1911. (Reference case #14-14974)
