Broome County Sheriff David Harder's Office has responded to calls over the past several weeks regarding thefts of motor vehicles and items stolen from inside cars.

Harder says he wants to remind people to be aware of the dangers of leaving valuables in vehicles, including the keys to the car itself.

Harder says take all valuables including pocketbooks, wallets, cellular phones, laptops, tablets and loose change with you when you park.  Don't use the vehicle to store Christmas gifts.  If you have to leave packages in the car, make sure they are hidden and out of sight, windows are rolled up and doors are locked.

Petty crimes like larcenies from vehicles commonly come at the hands of people looking for an easy opportunity and if a vehicle is locked, they move on.

If you have been a victim of a larceny or any other crime, contact your local law enforcement office.

The Broome County Sheriff's office can be reached by calling (607) 778-1911.
