New York NOT Named the “Most Christmassy” State

There's nothing quite like New York during the holiday season, but according to one study New York isn't actually the best place to celebrate Christmas.

According to a report by Maria Azzurra Volpe for Newsweek, New Hampshire actually takes the top spot when it comes to Christmas spirit. In fact, New York isn't even ranked second on the list, with that honor going to Wisconsin. The study was done by comparing Christmas-themed online activity within the last 12 months and Christmas-related cultural markers.

Now I have a bit of a gripe with this study. As everybody knows, the true meaning of Christmas is watching a never-ending supply of Christmas movies. And you'd be hard pressed to find a more iconic setting for a good Christmas movie than New York City. Show me one place in New Hampshire where you can have a Christmas-themed date as iconic as that of Will Ferrell's 2003 classic "Elf."

And you'll notice in that video that the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center is highlighted. And that's because it is perhaps the most iconic Christmas display in the entire world. You know what New Hampshire doesn't have? A giant Christmas tree right above an ice skating rink.

So whatever metrics were used in this ranking, I have to respectfully disagree with the results. It doesn't get any better than a New York Christmas, even if the fine people of the State of New Hampshire spent more time listening to Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas is You" just to skew the results of the study.
