The NYS Emergency Rental Assistance Program begins today (June 1, 2021) the program provides funding for qualifying Tenants and Landlords.

According to a news release from Broome County the funding will provide economic relief to low and moderate income households, who may be at risk of housing instability or homelessness.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced a $3.5 billion dollar assistance for renters and small businesses that are experiencing financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic

The Rental assistance program will help households that are behind on their rent and will be administered by the state office of temporary and disability assistance, the NYS Emergency Rental Assistance Program will provide assistance for up to 12 months of past due rent, three months of rental assistance and 12 months of utility arrears.

New York residents eligible for ERAP must meet specific requirements that includes a household income at 80 percent or below the area median income and the household must ne at risk of housing instability.

The program will initially start with the unemployed and those who are severely compromised with less than 50 percent of median income.

Governor Cuomo also announced the Small Business Recovery Grant Program to provide funding to small businesses, micro businesses, and small for profit independent arts and cultural organizations.

Priority for this funding will be given to businesses that are socially and economically disadvantaged, including minority and women owned business, and service disabled veterans.
