Broome County Legislature to Vote on Bluestone Wind Farm Road Use Agreement

Broome County lawmakers January 23 are considering a lengthy resolution dealing with road use by a company planning to develop a controversial wind farm in the eastern part of the county. 

The agreement with Bluestone Wind LLC covers over two dozen pages and addresses terms for the Texas company to deal with rights of way, damage to county roads and private property like driveways, installation of underground cables and utilities and other lease and legal details of the project in the Towns of Windsor and Sanford. 

The legislature meets at 5 p.m. on the 6^th floor of the county office building.

The project has been the point of contentious debate for months with supporters saying the plans by Calpine Energy locating 27 wind turbines in Sanford and Windsor will bring jobs to the region and cheaper energy to the state while opponents have said the 670-foot tall wind towers and blades will ruin the aesthetics of the rural area, cause unwanted noise and kill migratory birds and resident eagles.

In December, New York State regulators gave the go-ahead for the 124-megawatt project.
