Broome County Executive Jason Garnar's office has announced the Legislature unanimously approved the plan to lease the 60,000 square foot building for up to 6 months for $1.

Garnar said it was important for the County to gain control of the structure in order to provide utilities, maintenance and security, keeping the building in top shape for future use.

The County Executive says the idea is to have the location continue to be a site for programs similar to those that had been provided by the Boys and Girls Club.

The Democrat says County officials are meeting with a number of community members and organizations that have expressed strong interest in the facility.

Garnar says one of those organizations is the Broome County Urban League that is signing a sub-lease with the County to move their administrative offices, ATTAIN Lab and other programs into the building.
