Body Found on Susquehanna River Island in Westover
Police are investigating the death of a person whose body was discovered on an island in the Susquehanna River near the Westover Home Depot store.
Authorities say deputies with the Broome County Sheriff's Office marine unit were patrolling the river around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday when the partially-decomposed body was found.
The remains of what appeared to be an adult were on an island just west of the Home Depot building, which is located on Main Street. Dr. John Prindle, a county coroner was called to the scene.
Captain Kathleen Newcomb said investigators don't believe the death was suspicious. She said the sheriff's office is working with Johnson City police because of a missing person investigation the village agency launched in March.
In that case, authorities searched for a 36-year-old Binghamton man whose vehicle was found on Boland Drive, a short distance from the river.
