Binghamton Teen Pleads Guilty to Attempted Murder
A 16-year-old Binghamton boy has admitted he tried to kill a man in a Johnson City shooting that left a woman wounded.
Dyjuan Gadson pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder Monday in Broome County Court.
Gadson was taken into custody minutes after a Sunday afternoon shooting incident near the Goodwill Theatre on Willow Street.
A woman sitting in a parked sport utility vehicle was injured when Gadson opened fire on September 16.
Investigators said Gadson's intended target was 18-year-old Xavier Melendez. Three days after the shooting, Melendez was arrested by police.
Melendez was charged with weapon possession, drug possession and evidence tampering.
Gadson is scheduled to be sentenced on May 31. According to the Broome County district attorney's office, he faces ten years in prison.
