Fire Tears Through Building in Binghamton's Stadium District

An apartment house in downtown Binghamton was heavily damaged by a fire of suspicious origin.

The blaze in the three-story building at 122 Henry Street was reported around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Flames were shooting from the second-floor of the wood-frame structure when firefighters arrived at the scene.

The building that burned is across the street from the main post office on Henry Street. It's located just southwest of Mirabito Stadium.

The apartment house was supposed to be vacant. No injuries were immediately reported.

Henry Street was closed between Fayette and Carroll streets for firefighting operations.

Nearly 500 NYSEG customers on streets around the fire scene in downtown Binghamton were without power for much of the morning.

Property records show Isaac Anzaroot acquired the building at 122 Henry Street for $100,000 in March 2021.

Last December, Mayor Jared Kraham announced the property was being transferred to the city under a settlement banning Anzaroot from doing real estate business in Binghamton for 15 years.

Kraham visited the Henry Street scene as firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control. The mayor conferred with fire chief Alan Gardiner about the situation.

Kraham told WNBF News that the property transfer had not been completed, so Anzaroot was still the owner of the building.
