Authorities say a sport utility vehicle traveled over 100 miles per hour on Route 17 as it was pursued by a Broome County sheriff's deputy.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was the subject of the chase Thursday evening ultimately collided with another sheriff patrol vehicle in Johnson City.

The man who had been sought ran away after the crash at Division Street and Lincoln Avenue. He was pursued on foot for several blocks before a Taser device was deployed. He was taken into custody on West End Avenue in Binghamton.

According to the sheriff's office, 22-year-old Houston Alexander of Binghamton was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for evaluation.

Alexander was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and reckless endangerment. He also was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and obstructing governmental administration.

Johnson City police charged Alexander with resisting arrest. He was issued court appearance tickets.

Authorities said the pursuit started shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday when a sheriff's deputy observed a vehicle traveling 90 mph in a 55 mph zone on Interstate 81 in the town of Dickinson.

According to a sheriff's office news release, the SUV left the highway at Exit 6 in the town of Chenango. The vehicle traveled on Upper Front Street before speeding away on I-81 before continuing on Route 17. The pursuit continued into Johnson City and Binghamton before it was called off due to safety concerns.

The Grand Cherokee collided with a vehicle driven by another sheriff's deputy moments later.
