Binghamton Heroin Recovery Center Expands
Fairview Recovery’s Addiction Crisis Center in Binghamton is expanding.
City officials say the agency will expand programs for people battling heroin addiction who are waiting for space in a short term detox facility before entering long term counseling and services.
Fairview Executive Director Michele Napolitano says it's clear people waiting for beds in short-term detox programs need community support.
40 percent of those addicted fail to enter a long-term program after being released from detox.
The expansion program will take two years and cost $80,000. The money is coming from the Community Development Block Grant program.
City Council is due to vote later this month in a business meeting on amending its contract with Fairview for the expanded services.
