Binghamton Deli to Hold “Grand Opening” at Former Subway Shop
A vacant building on Binghamton's South Side has been transformed into a convenience store and deli.
The Stop N Shop Deli at the corner of Conklin Avenue and Tompkins Street is located where a Subway sandwich shop had operated for several years.
The restaurant closed suddenly in 2021. Zead Ghanem of Johnson City decided the spot would be ideal for his grocery store and deli.
Ghanem said the business will operate seven days a week. He said it will officially open Thursday.
Ghanem had worked for months to renovate the building to get the place ready for his new business.
Binghamton city councilman Michael Kosty told WNBF News "they did a great job with the renovations."
The place first opened in late June before it was ordered closed by a city code enforcement officer.
According to City Hall, a certificate of occupancy had not been issued for the business. Additional work was needed on the building's electrical system and a fire suppression system.
The place was inspected again by the code enforcement department and the business was given approval to operate.
Ghanem said he plans to open the deli at 8 a.m. Thursday.
