Construction for Binghamton Apartment and Business Project Starts
Work is underway on a planned apartment complex with two commercial spaces in Binghamton's First Ward.
The project is being developed on a vacant site at 41 Clinton Street. It was one of two dozen properties the city acquired in a legal settlement with Isaac Anzaroot that was announced in December 2023.
The site was conveyed to the First Ward Action Council for the multi-use project.
The three-story building will have 19 apartments on the upper floors. The commercial space will be located on the street level.
The general contractor for the project is W.L. Kline. Construction started on the site at Clinton and Murray streets a few days ago.
Project supervisor Mitch Persbacker said foundation work is now underway. He said the recent warm weather has been helpful during the first stage of the project.
Jerry Willard, First Ward Action Council executive director, has said the new project will be similar to a complex developed by the organization at 168 Clinton Street.
That building, called the Lincoln Apartments, opened in 2017.
