Binghamton Transition: Amici Pub Closes, New Restaurant Opening
There's new intrigue in what already has been a season of rapid-fire change on the Binghamton restaurant scene.
Amici Pub & Pizzeria served its final patrons last Saturday - downtown's annual St. Patrick's Parade Day.
Daniel DiRienzo opened the establishment at Henry and Fayette streets about 14 years ago. He had spent most of his life in the neighborhood, dating back to his childhood when he work at the family's nearby bakery.
Standing outside the darkened restaurant Thursday, DiRienzo told WNBF News it took a lot of hard work to operate the place. But he made it clear he enjoyed the opportunity.
The spot across from the main post office and Mirabito Stadium isn't expected to remain quiet for long.
New owners are planning to move in and start the next chapter for the site.
DiRienzo would not comment on who is buying the property but he indicated they likely will move quickly to launch their business.
Word on the street is Matt and Suzie Jones, the operators of the recently-closed Burger Mondays restaurant, will be taking over the site. They have not returned calls in recent weeks to discuss their plans.
In making the announcement that Burger Mondays would shut down, the owners pledged to "continue to be a delicious part of downtown Binghamton's restaurant scene."
In that tease, they wrote: "We won't be going far." The Amici building is four blocks east of where Burger Mondays was located on Henry Street.
