The Northwestern Wildcats dominated the first half last (Friday) night at the Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Illinois and defeated the Binghamton Bearcats in men's basketball 82-54.  The Wildcats were too big and too fast for the under-sized Bearcats to contain.  Northwestern, a member of the Big Ten, rolled to a 48-19 advantage at the end of the first half.  Binghamton played a stronger second half and outscored the Wildcats 35-34 but could not close the gap.

Northwestern's on-two inside punch dominated the paint.  Between them they accounted for 22 points and 23 rebounds.  The Wildcats' Vic Law led all scorers with 14 points while A.J. Turner fired in 13 points for the winners.

Binghamton's J.C.Show scored 15 points to lead his team offensively.  Freshman Sam Sessoms dropped in 11 points for BU from his point guard position.  Freshman Calistus Anyiche scored four points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Binghamton.

Northwestern made 52 percent of their shots while the Bearcats converted 35 percent of their attempts.  Binghamton was limited to 3 for 20 from three-point range while the Wildcats went 5-17 for 29 percent.

It was the first time the Bearcats ever played Northwestern.  Binghamton has played Big Ten teams on five occasions and are now 0-5 against that conference.  The Bearcats are in action again on Monday night when they travel to Hamilton to meet the Colgate Raiders at 7:00 P.M (6:45 air on News Radio 1290 WNBF).
