The Binghamton Bearcats women's basketball team won their America East opener at the Events Center on Wednesday night as they defeated the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) 69-62.  The Bearcats trailed the Retrievers 32-31 at the end of the first half.  Linda Cimino's Bearcats rolled to a 16-7 edge in the third quarter and held off UMBC down the stretch to earn the home win.

Both teams had 5-8 records in their non-conference games.  Binghamton was led by forward Alyssa James who scored 17 points, grabbed ten rebounds and blocked six shots.  Carly Boland scored a career high 16 points and Jasmine Sina added 13 more.  Rebecca Carmody also hit double digits scoring 10 points.

The Bearcats utilized hot three-point shooting going 10-21 for 48 percent from behind the arc.  Binghamton's bench held a big scoring advantage with a 28-6 edge.

The Bearcats will hit the road for their next game.  They head to UMass Lowell for a 2 PM game on Saturday.
