Bearcats Men Post Home win Over Sacred Heart

The Binghamton Bearcats put all phases of their game together in defeating the Sacred Heart Pioneers 78-73 at the Events Center on Saturday afternoon.  The win was Binghamton's second of the season and first against Division I competition.  Sacred Heart falls to 2-4 with the loss.

The Pioneers had a dismal start missing their first 11 shots but stormed back to take a 33-32 lead at halftime.  The Bearcats outscored the Pioneers 46-40 in the second half to secure the win.

Binghamton's defense keyed the win holding the Pioneers to just 33 percent shooting from the floor.  They came in scoring on 52 percent of their shots and scoring over 80 points per game but the Bearcat defense was solid.  Sean Hoehn was superb for Sacred Heart.  He was averaging 19.2 points per game coming in and exploded for a game-high 35 points including seven three-point baskets.

The Bearcats were led by freshman Sam Sessoms who scored 19 points to bring his season scoring average up to 17.8 points per game.  His passing was even better with four assists and numerous other sensational set-ups.  J.C. Show scored 14 points, Tyler Stewart notched 13 points including 11 in the second half and Chance Barnard also hit for double figures while grabbing eight rebounds.

With America East's premier shot-blocker Thomas Bruce still sidelined because of a concussion the Bearcats came in averaging seven blocks per game (fourth in the nation) and blocked 11 shots in this game.  Caleb Stewart led the way with four blocked shots.
