The Binghamton Bearcats will host the America East Softball Championship Tournament this week after clinching the regular season title over the past weekend.  It is the second consecutive year and third time in the past five seasons that the Bearcats will host the post-season event at the the Bearcats Sports Complex.

Binghamton finished the regular season with an America East record of 11-4 and an overall mark of 21-23.  UMass Lowell finished behind the Bearcats in second place at 12-5 but the River Hawks are in the final transitional year from Division II to Division I and are not eligible for post-season competition.  Thus, the Maine Black Bears are the second seed finishing at 10-6.  Both Binghamton and Maine receive first round byes as the top two seeds.

Play begins Wednesday, May 10 with #4 seed Albany meeting #5 seed UMBC at 11 AM.  Then at 1:30 PM #3 seed Stony Brook faces #6 seed Hartford.  Binghamton is scheduled to meet the winner of the Albany versus UMBC game on Thursday at 11 AM.

The championship round is scheduled for Saturday at noon and if another game is needed it would be played following that noon game. The winner of the America East Tournament gets an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
