The Binghamton Bearcats men's basketball team faces a big mountain to climb tonight (Wednesday) at 7 PM (645 air on News Radio 1290 WNBF) when it travels to Burlington, Vermont to meet the Catamounts.  Vermont has been the cream of the crop in America East for a number of seasons and comes into tonight's game with a 12-1 conference record. The Catamounts suffered their first America East loss in over two years when they lost to Hartford 69-68 Sunday at Patrick Gymnasium in Burlington. How good is Vermont ?  So good that they are expected to win every time they play.  Following their one-point loss to Hartford Vermont coach John Becker was asked by a reporter to explain what went wrong and part of his response was "I'm not hitting the panic button here"

There certainly is no need for that. The Catamounts had reeled off 33 consecutive wins including postseason against America East opponents.  They lost early in this season by four points at Kentucky.  In the series with Binghamton the Catamounts hold a 29-8 advantage and have won 15 of the last 17 meetings including a 68-54 decision on January 31 at the Events Center.

The Catamounts are led by conference "Player of the Year" candidate Trae Bell-Haynes who is averaging 14.9 points per game.  The Bearcats counter with their leading scorer J.C. Show who is averaging 14.4 points per game.
