Battisti Maintains Lead for Broome GOP DA Nomination

After absentee ballots were counted, Paul Battisti held on to his lead over Michael Korchak for the Republican nomination for Broome County district attorney.

At one point during Monday's count, Battisti had a 125-vote edge over Korchak. He had been ahead of Korchak by 137 votes based on the final tally released after the polls for the primary election closed June 25.

According to the Battisti campaign, the final margin of victory was 173 votes after all valid ballots were counted.

Battisti issued a statement saying "there is much more work to be done" ahead of the November general election. He said he will "continue to work tirelessly each day" to discuss his qualifications and experience with county residents.

Korchak did not release a statement following the counting of absentee and affidavit ballots.

Final voting results have yet to be certified by the Broome County Board of Elections.

Debra Gelson, an attorney at Tully Rinckey in Binghamton, is running as the Democratic candidate for district attorney in the November 5 general election.
