Hundreds of buses to be used by Canadian public transit systems will utilize propulsion systems developed by BAE Systems in Broome County.

BAE has announced it will be working with Nova Bus in providing the hybrid propulsion systems for 475 buses that will be acquired for use in nine cities in the province of Quebec.

According to BAE Systems, the company's HybriDrive propulsion technology is used to power about 4,000 buses around the world.

The system enables buses to use less diesel fuel than conventional vehicles.

BAE says the development and production of the propulsion systems will be conducted at its Endicott site.
