B.C. Humane Society Hopes to “Empty the Shelter”
Area residents who have been thinking about adopting a dog or a cat may want to do their research quickly in order to take advantage of an offer by a national foundation powered by Bissell.
The B.C. Humane Society is one of 15 organizations in New York State participating in the Bissell Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters Free Adoption Day on May 5.
The Foundation, organized by the Bissell family, behind the well-known vacuum-cleaner company, is paying the adoption fees at 111 shelters across the country.
Interested adopters, however, need to get their adoption application pre-approved. Some other rules include, rent verification and verification from a vet that all existing pets in the home are up to date on vaccination and spayed or neutered. Prospective new owners will have references checked and are told to bring a crate or carrier to bring the new pet home.
While the applications must be filled out prior to the adoption event to be pre-approved, specific animals cannot be reserved for adoption prior to the Empty the Shelters Day.
Note that pre-approval could take a little time so, applications should be filled out as soon as possible.
