Army Sergeant From Tompkins County Dies in Training Accident

A Tompkins County native is dead following an accident during a free-fall military training exercise in Arizona

U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Ethan Carpenter, who hails from Trumansburg, died March 15.  Carpenter served several tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.

An Army news release announced the death and said Sergeant Carpenter was an exemplary soldier and Ranger Leader.  It did not provide information about the nature of the fatal accident.
